Vincent Van Gogh’s L’Allee des Alyscamps (1888) was sold Tuesday evening at Sotheby’s in New York for $66.2 million.

With high-return seeking investors, non-thinking gallerists, private collectors, and activist lawyers putting a choke hold on the art world, the ‘authentication’ process is increasingly fraught or non-existent. The result can be bogus works passed off as legit and legit works passed over as bogus.
